Complete GeM Registration Guide for MSEs (2026)
Step-by-step: how a Micro or Small Enterprise can register on GeM, list a catalog, and unlock MSE-specific benefits.
The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) is India's largest public-procurement platform — and one of the most powerful growth channels available to a Micro or Small Enterprise. Yet a surprising number of MSEs stall in the first week, either with a half-completed seller profile or a catalog that never goes live. This guide walks through the registration journey end-to-end.
Before you start, gather four things: your Udyam (MSME) certificate, GST registration, PAN, and a current bank account in the business name. If you manufacture under a brand, also keep your brand authorisation or trademark on hand. Service providers should keep their service category mapping ready.
Step one is the seller account on gem.gov.in. Use the proprietor or authorised signatory's Aadhaar-linked mobile number for OTP. Choose 'Seller' and link your Udyam — this is what activates your MSE flag and the benefits that come with it.
Step two is categorisation: are you an OEM (you make the product), a reseller (you resell another OEM's product on GeM), or a service provider? OEM status is more valuable on most tenders but requires brand authorisation or proof of manufacture. Resellers can still bid, but read each tender's OEM-only clause carefully.
Step three is the catalog. This is where most MSEs underperform. List products with accurate technical specifications, lifecycle pricing, and photography that matches GeM guidelines. A well-built catalog is your 'always-on' bid — direct purchases happen here without a tender at all.
Step four is MSE benefits activation: price preference, EMD exemption on most categories, and reservation participation on tenders below ₹200 crore where 25% is reserved for MSEs (with sub-reservations for women-owned and SC/ST enterprises). These benefits are not automatic in every tender — you must claim them with the correct documentation in each bid.
Finally, set up bank linkage and verify your account end-to-end so payments flow without friction. Once your first catalog is live and a tender lines up, you're ready to bid. If any step feels foggy, that's exactly what we help MSEs through.
