How do I register on GeM as a proprietor in 2026?

Step 1 — Seller account creation

Go to gem.gov.in, click Signup → Seller. Choose Proprietorship as your business type. Enter your PAN, Aadhaar-linked mobile number and email. The portal validates PAN against the Income Tax database and sends OTPs to your registered mobile.

Step 2 — Business & bank verification

Enter your Udyam Registration Number (mandatory for MSE benefits), GSTIN if turnover crosses ₹40 lakh, and a current-account bank statement. GeM cross-verifies GSTIN with the GST portal and Udyam data with the MSME ministry — mismatches in name spelling are the single biggest cause of rejection, so use the exact legal name across all three.

Step 3 — Seller profile & category selection

Fill out the Vendor Assessment section, list your products or services and select the correct GeM category. If you sell manufactured goods you'll also need to declare OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) or Reseller status — the wrong choice here blocks you from many tenders later.

Step 4 — Catalog listing

Upload product images, specifications, HSN codes, pricing and stock. Every catalog item goes through GeM's technical vetting; expect 3–7 working days per submission.

Step 5 — Activate MSE benefits

Once your Udyam data is verified, tick the MSE benefit checkboxes: price preference, EMD exemption and tender reservations. These are not automatic — an unclaimed benefit is a benefit lost on every bid.

Common mistakes

Registering with a personal savings account (rejected), using a PAN name that doesn't match Udyam (rejected), missing OEM authorisation letters when you're a reseller (blocks tender participation), and skipping MSE benefit activation (you'll bid without exemptions and lose on price).
